The mainstream media rattled with the news of Claudine Gay’s resignation like dead sticks of bamboo in a metal bin.
It is something they have always done and always will, one of the two main tasks of American journalism: Anti-Blackness and feeding the war machine are the principal, interlaced occupations of our media corporations. Do not think for a moment they are here to inform us.
For those who are unaware, Dr. Claudine Gay, the daughter of Haitian immigrants,* has resigned from her position as president of Harvard. This follows accusations of plagiarism and antisemitism, both of which have feeble grounds and yet have been dutifully repeated by every major news outlet. The plagiarism claims have been disproven; the antisemitism seems to be more about not being a loud enough, aggressive enough defender of not only Jewish people but also Israel. In a culture that valued integrity and truth, this would be a nonstory. Neither the Academy nor corporate media value those things. The verdict on Dr. Gay is false but truthy, and that’s good enough by contemporary American standards.
